The Nexus Point. For those who knew me back in my teens this is probably very, very familiar.
This is Nova-X, a ‘synthetic’ grown and created for warfare in a laboratory by ND (National Defense). He’s the tenth model in the series, his production number is 219. He’s a ‘flame unit’.
This comic was created by myself and a guy named Robert Hall. Back when this was conceived we were both 13-14 years old and in the manic grip of Image Comics! You kinda had to be there to really get how exciting it all was, but we would spend entire weekends creating our own heroes and villains, dreaming that we would (magically) be discovered and soar to instant worldwide stardom on the comic scene (and if that sounds funny now, remember at the time Rob Liefeld got his own Levi’s commercial and people were bagging $100 bills for single issues of comics that had just been released the week before)
Obviously that never happened, but what I do have is a series of pretty cool unfinished pages and ideas that actually have a lot of naive potential in them.
As a tip of the hat to Rob and to a time when passion and ideas seemed limitless, I’ve dusted off what I could find, touched up the artwork digitally (unfortunately the passage of time has left me with only spotty and faded photocopies of pencils and inks in various stages of completion), I’ve laid it all out, lettered it and somehow produced an entire first issue. I will be posting these pages (once per week, lets say Tuesdays?) along with some commentary from myself.
Once it’s all ‘out there’ I’ll put together a final post outlining where the series would of headed, post some script/prose and some left over sketches.
FOLLOWING that I MAY do some work on our second property, The Agency. Although it’s in much more of a fragmented mess than The Nexus Point and only goes up to about page 7. I do have some pretty cool photo’s somewhere of Rob and I presenting The Agency to Jim Lee (yeah THE Jim Lee) at OzCon in 1997, which actually went really well (I have a letter from Wildstorm Productions about it somewhere too with some good constructive feedback). HELL YEAH!
I hope you enjoy, it’s been interesting to dive back into something I’ve barely looked at in over 15 years!
